Tonight at 6:05 pm, I will be sitting down on my couch, cracking an ice cold bottle of Berkshire Brewing Company’s Lost Sailor IPA and feeling better than I have in months. That’s because I will be watching baseball and listening to the dulcet tones of Jerry Remy and Don Orsillo as they describe the goings on in an actual Boston Red Sox game. It may only be interesting for a few innings as the starters get their work in, and it may not count in the standings, but what will count is that it is another step on the road to the April 4th.
The big boys have packed up their gear and moved down Edison Rd to City of Palms Park, and tonight they will finally play against a team in another uniform. It’s a big step, and part of that is us getting to watch it live.
The lineups, even against the college kids (BC/Northeastern), look pretty good. In the opener against Northeastern (broadcast on WEEI, minus the inappropriate texts) we’ll hear about Ells, Victor, Ortiz, Lars Anderson and Billy Hall, along with a few innings from Casey Kelly on the mound. I’ll be listening in at work as I sit in a virtual waiting room for the opportunity to buy a single seat for opening night, or maybe an obstructed view one. In the nightcap, which I will be watching blissfully, we get Scoots, Pedey, Youk, Beltre (the cupless wonder), and Jeremy Hermida behind Boof. This is gonna be awesome.
